Fuji to demonstrate automated turning & milling at EMO 2007
Three recent additions to the Fuji range of high production CNC lathes are due to be demonstrated by the largest supplier of automated lathes to the automotive industry at EMO 2007.
The machines, a Fuji ANW 35 dual-spindle, dual-turret lathe with swing robot automated part handling, a TNW 35 dual, opposed-spindle and twin-turret machine with driven tools and gantry robotic handling and an HM 34, five-face machining cell will provide visitors with the opportunity to see precise, highly automated production involving one-hit machining cycles.
Fuji Machine Tools is represented throughout most of Europe by 600 Centre of Shepshed, Loughborough, providing turnkey project expertise and service support to the Japanese company. In 2006, Fuji sold 1,250 machines to the automotive, bearing and transmission sectors world-wide and has some 4,300 installations in Toyota’s global automotive operations and suppliers.
The ANW 35 is now a mainstay of the Fuji turning business with a rigid, vertical column design enabling swarf to fall away from the cutting zone. Dual spindles with 18.5 kW drives able to accept workpiece sizes up to 250 mm diameter by 110 mm long are controlled via Fanuc 180i-TB control. The integrated swing-arm robotic handling via Fuji’s own L292 – L unit can carry two components weighing up to 7 kg and provide almost universal access to the loading/stacking equipment at the front, back, left or right hand side of the machine.
The TNW 35 machine has two opposed spindles of 15 kW, 4,200 revs/min and will cater for a maximum worksize of 190 mm diameter by 105 mm long. It features two, 10-station driven tool turrets mounted on the 30o slant bed cast bed with boxway slideways for high rigidity and long production life. The machine has a fully integrated L676-H gantry robotic loader with 20-station work stacker as standard.
Meanwhile the compact 1.8 m by 2.1 m Fuji HM 34 is a fully automated milling cell based on a lathe design with a four-axis simultaneous capability to provide five-face machining on chuck held components with a diameter of 300 mm by 120 mm long.
Controlled by Fanuc 210i-MB, the machine has an option of six, 10 or 15 position all-driven turret with maximum rotational speed of 5,000 revs/min. The turret can also be fitted with angular tool holders to create a B-axis capability. A Fuji L292-B robotic arm is included to provide fully automated processing and is able to carry two components weighing up to 10 kg each.
